National Road No. 10 Connecting the Border Area to the Sea Area, 60% Complete

PHNOM PENH: The infrastructure project of National Road No. 10 connecting Samlot district in Battambang province to Khemarak Phoumin city in Koh Kong province is almost 60% complete and scheduled to be fully completed by the end of 2023. This road will be serve as an economic corridor in Cambodia, for both the public and tourism sectors.

At the meeting to review the 2021 work of the Koh Kong Provincial Administration on 14 March, the Director of the Department of Public Works and Transport, On Davuth, said that by March 2022, National Road No. 10, or Street 1551, was nearly 60% complete.

National Road No. 10 is the first national road in Cambodia that connects the border area of Samlot district in Battambang province to Khemarak Phoumin city in Koh Kong province, passing through Veal Veng and O'Som areas, Pursat province, with a total length of 198,518 kilometers.

The Public Works and Transport Deaprtment Director said that this road will provide benefits for transit and facilitate the transportation of various agricultural products, especially crops from the western areas of Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat to Koh Kong provinces, and become a tourist attraction for those who like to travel and appreciate nature, since the road is surrounded by rich, dense forest.

Koh Kong Provincial Governor, Mithona Phu Thong, said National Road No. 10 was an important economic artery for the coastal province. She said that when this road is completed and put into operation, it will facilitate the travel of people, tourists, as well as the transportation of various agricultural products faster, helping to save time.

National Road No. 10 started construction on 9 March 2020 and is scheduled to take 48 months to build (from December 2019 to December 2023). This road will act as a potential economic route in Cambodia, facilitating communication, integration, internal and external connections, and contributing to the facilitation of trade, investment, agriculture, agro-industry and tourism.
